“The fans give us energy”

Interview with Ewa Pajor before the showdown against Paris.

It’s an all-or-nothing game: on Wednesday evening (kick-off 18:45 CEST, live on Wölfe TV), VfL Women can book their place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage with victory over Paris FC. Ahead of the round 2 second leg at the AOK Stadion, striker Ewa Pajor discusses how the team want to approach the match and what lessons have been learned from the 3-3 draw in the first leg.

Ewa Pajor, on Wednesday it’s the second leg against Paris FC. What kind of game are you expecting?

Ewa Pajor: “I’m expecting a big battle to progress to the group stage. We want to give everything to reach our target and that’s the Champions League, and I think if we play our game, we’ll walk off the pitch as winners.”

I think it’ll be a big help for us that we’re playing at home.

How do you intend to approach this game? Where will it be decided?

Ewa: “We want to improve defensively and offensively compared to the match in Paris. We have to attack with courage, take our chances, have a lot of possession and just demonstrate our style of play. I think it’ll be a big help for us that we’re playing at home.”

You just alluded to the support of the fans – how important is that for you?

Ewa: “We obviously prefer to play at home in front of our fans at the AOK Stadion. I hope we have a full house supporting us against Paris. The atmosphere always helps us a lot and gives us even more energy on the pitch.”

How are you feeling ahead of the match – is it more excitement or tension?

Ewa: “Full of excitement, that’s for sure. It’s the Champions League and we get to play at home in front of our fans. It’s all on the line and therefore we have to give everything. There are no nerves there. We want to win on Wednesday evening!”
