Ten She-Wolves eyeing EURO glory

The Women’s European Championship kicks off in Switzerland today.

The long wait is finally over, with the UEFA Women’s EURO getting under way in Switzerland on Wednesday. A total of 10 VfL Wolfsburg players are participating with their respective nations at the tournament, where the top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals.

She-Wolf showdown

Norwegian duo Justine Kielland and new VfL signing Thea Bjelde face the host nation in their opening fixture at 21:00 CEST, meaning a head-to-head assignment against another Wolfsburg summer signing in Smilla Vallotto. Finland and Iceland are the other two countries in Group A.

Germany with five VfL players

Green-and-White quintet Sophia Kleinherne, Sarai Linder, Janina Minge, Stina Johannes and Cora Zicai are representing Germany, whose campaign kicks off on Friday 4 July against Poland in St. Gallen (21:00 CEST). Their other Group C opponents are Denmark and Sweden.

Late starters

Dutch pair Lineth Beerensteyn and Caitlin Dijkstra will be the last two Wolfsburg players to get under way in the tournament as their first game is not until Saturday 5 July against Wales (kick-off 18:00 CEST). England and France round out the competition in Group D.
