Ten-goal haul seals quarter-final spot

VfL Wolfsburg’s U17s cruise to victory in their cup tie at JFV Calenberger Land.

Following their 9-0 victory over Eimsbütteler TV last weekend, the young Wolves recorded another emphatic win on Wednesday evening. Head coach Christian Stegmaier’s side ran out 10-0 (4-0) winners at JFV Calenberger Land to comfortably book their place in the quarter-finals.

Quickly on track

The young Wolves made a high-intensity start and created their first clear-cut chance inside the opening minute. The breakthrough was not long in coming either, with Alexej Jewtschuk putting Wolfsburg ahead in the fifth minute. Stegmaier’s side then carved out chance after chance, but the hosts defended with great determination and made several clearances just in front of the line. The lead therefore remained slender at first, before the Green-and-Whites put clear daylight between the teams prior to half-time. A brace from Lenn Grupe (30’, 37’) and a Luan Lazzara goal (34’) made it 4-0, while Wolfsburg remained completely untroubled at the other end.

The pattern of the game remained unchanged after the restart. The young Wolves continued to dominate proceedings and added another six goals in the space of 17 minutes. Elia Zimmermann (58’, 73’) and Luka Spiroski (60’, 74’) both struck twice, while Younes Mhana (66’) and Nikola Isailovic (75’) also got their names on the scoresheet. The Green-and-Whites thus completed a thoroughly deserved 10-0 victory and cruised into the quarter-finals of the NFV Cup.

“A very assured performance”

Christian Stegmaier: “That was a very assured performance from my boys. We dominated in possession and looked solid defensively. Luka Spiroski provided the special story of the evening: after almost a year out injured, he made his return and scored two goals straight away. Now we’re looking forward to the big game in Hamburg and feel well prepared for it.”
