Successful Weekend for the Young She-Wolves

U20 women and U17 girls celebrate away wins.

Both the VfL Wolfsburg U20 women and U17 girls celebrated Regionalliga victories at the weekend: the U20s won 2-1 away to SpVg Aurich on Sunday, while the U17s secured a 3-2 victory at Hertha BSC on Saturday.

U20s Make Fast Start

The U20s made the perfect start in Aurich, taking the lead through Yoko Inose in just the fifth minute. Around ten minutes later, Hana Miyaji made it 2-0. In the second half, Aurich’s Dorothea Greulich pulled one back (68’), but the U20 women held on to secure the win. Thanks to the three points, the young She-Wolves are currently sixth in the Regionalliga Nord table.

Strong First Half from U17s

The U17 girls also made a strong start to their match at Hertha BSC. Elly Brunke opened the scoring in the eighth minute, with Emma Schade adding a second just six minutes later (14’). Before the break, the VfL striker even completed her brace (29’). In the second half, the Berlin side launched a comeback: Henriette Brandt first reduced the deficit to 3-1 (67’), before Marie Jo Schünemann made it 3-2 (75’). After that, however, the Green-and-Whites saw out the game without any further scares. “We’re very happy with the first half. We picked up where we left off against Osnabrück. The second half, however, is something we need to analyse,” said head coach Markus Herbst. He explained: “We were hardly in the game at all anymore and gifted our opponents chances to score. Both goals could have been avoided. But that’s also part of the development process.” The team returned to Wolfsburg with three points in the bag. The young She-Wolves are currently fourth in the B-Juniorinnen Regionalliga Nord table.
