The Lady-Wolves would appear to be unstoppable, on the way to claiming their fourth German championship title: On matchday 19 in the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga, the Green-Whites secured a deserved 2-0 (1-0) win over old rivals 1. FFC Frankfurt. In front of a crowd of 1,580 spectators in the 'Stadion am Brentanobad', Lara Dickenmann (32') and Pernille Harder (56') were on target for the visitors, who are now comfortably top of the table, with just four games to go. At the same time, the Lady-Wolves extended their unbeaten competitive run to seven games – their eleventh successive win in the Bundesliga. The Green-Whites have little time to celebrate their success though, with the rescheduled game from matchday 18 against SC Freiburg at the AOK Stadion set for Wednesday, May 9th. Kick-off is at 17:00 CEST.
"Very satisfied with the result"
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: We are naturally very satisfied with the result. At the end of such a busy week, it’s not self-evident that we should perform the way the team did today. We needed a couple of minutes to get into the game and Frankfurt put us under quite a bit of pressure at that stage. We initially lacked the solution to dealing with that, but we then found our way into the game and we created some good chances on goal. We continually got in behind their back-line and combined well down the flanks. The ultimate consistency eluded us at first, but we found our way through eventually and could have scored another goal or two before the break. In the second-half, we controlled the game, although Frankfurt were always a threat on the break. I was then very happy when we scored our second goal, as that lent us more stability.
