Season finale hotting up

The standout facts and figures ahead of VfL's trip to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Sunday.

Just four points separate the teams going into the Matchday 31 encounter, so it will be no easy task for the Wolves. Bruno Labbadia's charges narrowly missed out on all three points in a 2-2 draw when the sides last met at the start of December 2018, so they will have their sights set on victory come kick-off on Sunday (15:30 CEST).

  • VfL have already won seven times away from home this season; an eighth victory would equal a club record set in the 2007/08 campaign.

  • Daniel Ginczek was in the starting line-up for the first time in 2019 against Eintracht Frankfurt last week, playing alongside strike partner Wout Weghorst for the first time since Matchday 17.

  • The Wolves' last away win against Hoffenheim was by a 3-1 scoreline in November 2012. VfL have since drawn two and lost three in Sinsheim.

  • A total of 74 goals have been scored in the 21 Bundesliga meetings to date between Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim, at an average of 3.52 goals per game. The only other fixture (involving VfL and a current Bundesliga team) with a higher average is against Fortuna Düsseldorf at 4.25 goals per game.

  • The teams also faced each other in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup in 2013/14, with the Green-Whites emerging with a 3-2 win in Sinsheim.

  • Maximilian Arnold became VfL's youngest ever Bundesliga goalscorer at the age of 18 years, 321 days when he found the net against Hoffenheim on 13 April 2013.
