Wölfinnen klatschen sich ab.

VfL Wolfsburg Women won their first friendly of 2024, seeing off TSG Hoffenheim 2-0 at the Estadio Algarve in Portugal. The match, pitting the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga leaders against their fourth-placed rivals, was evenly balanced for much of the three 30-minute periods.

The She-Wolves had more left in the tank towards the end however, and created increasing numbers of chances in a game which was ultimately decided by goals from Sveindis Jonsdottir (12’) and a Dominique Janssen penalty (60’+1). Following the deserved win, the Green-and-Whites returned to base at their training camp in Almancil to continue their preparations for the second half of the season.

Goals

  • 1-0 Jonsdottir (12’): The She-Wolves launch a counter-attack following a Hoffenheim free-kick. Jule Brand plays a delightful pass behind the defence for Jonsdottir, who finishes low into the net.

  • 2-0 Janssen (60’+1): VfL pin Hoffenheim back inside their own half. Vanessa Leimenstoll trips Svenja Huth inside the penalty area and Portuguese referee Sara Moreira Alves immediately points to the spot. Janssen converts the penalty with characteristic aplomb to make the score 2-0, her effort too precise for goalkeeper Martina Tufekovic, despite diving the right way.
