The She-Wolves kicked off this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League with a bang, thrashing Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 to get the new league phase under way. Head coach Stephan Lerch’s team put in a mature display against the French league runners-up, making the most of the chances they created and soaking up any pressure that came their way in defence.
Off to a flying start!
Stephan Lerch: “What a great start to the league phase of the Champions League that was for us. I’m over the moon and so proud of my team. Our mind-set was top-notch and we fully deserved the win.”
Goals
- 1-0 Groenen (7’, OG.): A perfect start for VfL! Levels sends over a cross to the near post that is nodded on by Popp. Groenen tries to clear the ball but merely steers it into her own net.
- 2-0 Peddemors (42’): Popp steals the ball impressively just outside the penalty area, Huth slides it into the middle of the box and finds an unmarked Peddemors, who coolly fires it home to double the lead.
- 3-0 Popp (90’): Victory is sealed after a Huth cross from the right is deflected but lands right at Popp’s feet, who stabs it home from close range.
- 4-0 Minge (90’+5): Minge does a captain’s job from the spot, firing the penalty straight down the middle.
