No rest for cup winners

Only a couple of days after the 11th DFB Cup success, VfL Women are in action in Bremen.

It’s just two days since the victory in the DFB Cup final, but the She-Wolves are already gearing up for their next assignment in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga at SV Werder Bremen on Sunday 12 May (kick-off 18:30 CEST). At the pre-match press conference, coach Tommy Stroot discussed…

…the time since the cup success: “I was lucky that I drove to Bremen on my own, which gives you the chance to think about things, reflect and let a few images run through your head. I really enjoyed that and I can see that the girls are still reliving and feeling this game. We’re having lots of little chats in which we look back on the performance and the result with pride. I’m happy for it to stay that way for a few more days, but it won’t affect the Werder game now.”

…the team news: “The only major adjustment to the squad compared to the final is that Svenja Huth isn’t available. She has a bruised foot, nothing serious.”

…the preparation for the Bremen game: “We need to show our quality on the pitch again because we know how awkward Werder are as opponents. That’s also why it’s been so important for us in recent weeks to seal second place as soon as possible. Although we’ve succeeded in that, we’re approaching tomorrow’s task like a normal league match. We’ve taken a great feeling from the Bayern match and want to carry that onto the pitch in Bremen.”
