Robert Glatzel strengthens the Wolves’ attack.
There is further movement in the VfL squad ahead of the 2026/2027 season. Robert Glatzel, most recently with Hamburger SV, joins the Green-and-Whites from the Bundesliga. The 32-year-old striker has signed a contract with VfL Wolfsburg until 30 June 2028. “We’re delighted that we were able to convince Robert of our vision and bring him to the club. With his physical presence and eye for goal, which he has demonstrated far beyond just the 2. Bundesliga, he will add a great deal to our attacking play. On top of that, his experience on and off the pitch will be of enormous value to us,” said VfL sporting director Pirmin Schwegler.

“Right from the first conversations with those in charge, I felt a great deal of trust. That’s why I had a good feeling about this move from the very beginning,” said Robert Glatzel. “I’m absolutely delighted to be wearing the VfL shirt and can’t wait to get started and be out on the pitch with my new teammates.”
2. Bundesliga top scorer and promotion with HSV
Robert-Nesta Glatzel spent his childhood and youth football years in Bavaria. His first clubs were SC Fürstenfeldbruck, SpVgg Unterhaching and TSV 1860 München before spells with SV Heimstetten, 3. Liga side Wacker Burghausen and then a return to the Munich Lions. Glatzel gained his first experience in the 2. Bundesliga after joining 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 2015. He then spent two seasons with 1. FC Heidenheim, scoring 24 goals in 61 competitive appearances and earning a move to English second-tier side Cardiff City. On loan, the Munich-born forward joined 1. FSV Mainz 05 in 2021, making 13 Bundesliga appearances for the club. Later that same year, he moved to Hamburger SV. For the Rothosen, Glatzel – who finished as the 2. Bundesliga’s top scorer in 2024 – found the net an impressive 84 times in 150 matches and became one of the standout figures in the HSV side that secured promotion to the Bundesliga in 2025.
