Moving to Hoffenheim as Head Coach

Assistant Coach Eva-Maria Virsinger Leaves VfL Women.

The VfL Wolfsburg women’s team will enter the second half of the season without assistant coach Eva-Maria Virsinger. The contract between VfL and the 30-year-old football instructor was mutually terminated as of December 31, 2025, at Virsinger’s request. The Württemberg native will take on the head coach position at Bundesliga rival TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Virsinger already gained experience as a player-coach during her time at the then-second-division club VfL Sindelfingen. She later worked as an association coach for the Württemberg Football Association before joining VfL Wolfsburg as assistant coach and scout ahead of the 2021/2022 season.

“More than just a sporting stop”

“I look back on four and a half wonderful years, which is why this decision was far from easy,” says Virsinger. “VfL was for me far more than just a sporting stop. I am grateful for the shared experiences with the team and the fans, as well as for the club’s trust – that will stay with me forever. Special thanks go to Peter Christiansen, Ralf Kellermann, and Stephan Lerch, who have now made it possible for me to take this step and work as a head coach in the Frauen-Bundesliga.”

“It wasn’t an easy decision”

Ralf Kellermann, Director of Women’s Football at VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH: “It was not an easy decision for us to terminate Eva-Maria Virsinger’s contract prematurely and in the middle of the season. However, the discussions with TSG were guided by a desire to find a solution acceptable to all parties. Eva was a valued member of our coaching team and highly respected by both the squad and staff for her sporting expertise, professionalism, and strong interpersonal skills. We thank Eva for her dedication and wish her all the best on her future career path!”
