Women

Move to the DFB

Britta Carlson is to take over as new co-trainer of the German women’s national team.

After a total of nine years with the Green-Whites, Britta Carlson is to leave Wolfsburg at the end of the current season at her own request. The co-trainer of the Lady-Wolves has terminated her contract with the women’s Bundesliga side to make a move to the German Football Federation (DFB), where she will take on the same role as co-trainer alongside new DFB head-coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg. Considering her service to the club, VfL have granted the DFB’s wish to have Britta Carlson with the national team for their test-friendly in Hamilton, Canada on June 10th. Thus, the 40-year-old will begin her new job immediately after her final competitive game with the Lady-Wolves, the DFB-Cup final against 1. FC Köln on June 3rd. As to who will fill the co-trainer position with the VfL women is as yet undecided, but will be clarified shortly.

"My greatest dream"

"I am torn between laughter and tears. Wolfsburg has long since become my second home. Ralf Kellermann and I have really complemented one another perfectly over the years, enjoying countless unforgettable moments and title wins together. In finishing here, I hope to celebrate further successes with the wonderful coaching staff and this exceptional team. It has always been my greatest dream to work for the German national team. That my dream is now to come true is simply fantastic. I’d like to express my gratitude to all the people I’ve gotten to know and have worked so successfully with over the past few years. And naturally also all of those responsible at VfL Wolfsburg."

"A top coach, who gives her all to be successful"

For Ralf Kellermann, it is also time to bid farewell to a colleague he has worked closely and trustingly together with for many years, including a two-year break. "Naturally this marks the end of a long-standing history together. Britta‘s is both a sporting, as well as personal, loss. However, the joy at the challenging task she has taken on and is ready for outweighs that. The DFB are getting a top coach, who gives her all to be successful and will set many new impulses, We wish Britta all the very best and would be extremely happy to have her come and visit some games here in the AOK Stadion. She is always more than welcome here, as she has had a major part to play in the amazing success story of this club over the past few years," stated the Sporting Director of women’s football at VfL.
