It’s fair to say that the Wolves don’t normally travel to Bayern as favourites. From 26 Bundesliga away games against the German record champions to date, they’ve never come away with three points. While the Bavarians can finish between second and fourth with two matchdays to go, the Green-and-Whites’ situation in the table is a lot more open: from 14th place to seventh, anything is theoretically still possible.
The facts and figures on the last away match of the season
- Manuel Neuer is set to make his 500th Bundesliga appearance on Sunday. He’d become the fourth goalkeeper in Bundesliga history to reach this mark.
- VfL have kept a clean sheet in three of their last six games – that’s as many as they kept in the previous 26 matches of the campaign.
- The Wolves have put together three consecutive wins for the first time this season ahead of the trip to Munich.
- Bayern have suffered the same number of defeats in the second half of the season (six) as the Green-and-Whites.
- Ralph Hasenhüttl triumphed in his last encounter with Bayern. His RB Leipzig side beat the Munich club 2-1 on Matchday 27 of the 2017/18 season.
- The two coaches came up against each other last year, too. On the fifth matchday of the Premier League season, the current VfL boss won 2-1 with his Southampton side against Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.
