VfL Wolfsburg sign Kento Shiogai.

The Wolves are strengthening their attacking options: Kento Shiogai joins VfL Wolfsburg from Dutch top-flight side NEC Nijmegen and has signed a contract running until 30 June 2030. The 20-year-old striker will wear the number 7 shirt for the Green and Whites.

“Kento is a young and talented player with a great deal of potential. On the pitch, he stands out for his pace, intensity and strong pressing, and he possesses qualities that fit VfL Wolfsburg perfectly. We are delighted that we were able to convince him to join VfL and will support him in settling into his new environment and the Bundesliga as quickly as possible”, said Sporting Director Pirmin Schwegler.

Development in his home country

In his home country of Japan, Shiogai completed his footballing education at Kugayama HS and Keio University. After a loan spell with Yokohama F. Marinos, the attacking talent moved to NEC Nijmegen in the Netherlands in the summer of 2024. There, the Japanese forward has scored nine goals in 14 competitive appearances this season. Standing at 1.80 meters tall, the striker has made a total of 14 appearances for Japan’s U18, U19 and U23 national teams, scoring eight goals.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be in Wolfsburg now. Moving to the Bundesliga is a big step for me, and I’m so excited to make the challenge here”, said Kento Shiogai about his new role. “I am going to give one hundred percent for the team and continue to develop as a player for our future. I can’t wait to get started as a Wolf.”
