After another demanding midweek schedule, the next competitive fixture is just around the corner for VfL Wolfsburg Women. On Saturday 15 November, the She-Wolves host SC Freiburg at the AOK Stadium in the DFB Cup round of 16 (kick-off 16:30 CET). The 11-time winners are determined to book their place in the quarter-finals in mid-March.
At his pre-match press conference, head coach Stephan Lerch spoke about …
… team news: “Smilla Vallotto is ill so she’s unavailable, but otherwise everyone else is able to play. Sophia Kleinherne and Vivien Endemann have been given the green light by the medical team and are options for the upcoming matches, but they won’t be in the squad tomorrow.”
… the opposition: “Freiburg are a really refreshing side who’ve already pulled off one or two surprises this season that nobody necessarily expected. Their new coach Edmond Kapllani has brought in his own ideas, and you can see his stamp on the team. They’re coming to Wolfsburg with plenty of momentum, so we’ll have to give everything from the first minute. It’s an all-or-nothing match in which we’ll need to put them under pressure right from the start and make our presence felt.”
… challenges in defence: “We’re focusing on the defence, even if at the moment we only have limited training time to work on it properly. Conceding goals has been frustrating, and too many have been far too soft, but we’re determined to improve that going forward. As soon as we get the chance to devote more attention to this area, we’ll work on it actively. Our aim is to be more solid. It’s a process we’ll keep pushing along step by step over the coming days and weeks.”
