The She-Wolves went into Wednesday’s second leg having won all their 11 matches in 2018/19 without conceding a single goal. The Green-Whites maintained that perfect record in stunning fashion, putting six goals past Atletico to secure a 10-0 aggregate triumph and a place in the last eight of the competition. Alexandra Popp (14’) opened the scoring for Stephan Lerch’s team in the first half before further second-half strikes from Caroline Hansen (46’), Pernille Harder (61’/65´), Kristine Minde (82’) and Ewa Pajor (90+4’) completed a comprehensive win. The VfL Ladies return to action on Sunday 4 November, when they travel to MSV Duisburg on Matchday 8 of the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga (kick-off 14:00 CET) - their seventh game in the space of just 22 days.
Head coach Lerch full of praise
Stephan Lerch: “I can only praise my players - from the first minute they did exactly what we’d set out to do. We were solid and aggressive in the tackle, which allowed us to dominate proceedings and force our opponents to chase the game. I can only take my hat off to them after that performance - it was very impressive.”
