Hecking: “I wish him all the best”

VfL Wolfsburg and assistant coach Murat Ural end their working relationship

VfL Wolfsburg and assistant coach Murat Ural have mutually agreed to terminate his contract with effect from 1 October 2026. The 39-year-old joined VfL Wolfsburg in March 2026 alongside then head coach Dieter Hecking and Frank Geideck. Ural had previously worked under Hecking as an assistant coach at Bundesliga side VfL Bochum. He was on the touchline as an assistant coach for eleven of the Wolves’ matches last Bundesliga season. Following the changes in the summer, the Swiss-born coach remained with the Green-and-Whites and was also part of the coaching staff at the start of the current campaign.

“Worked closely together in a relationship built on trust”

“Following open and transparent discussions, we have agreed to end our working relationship. We worked closely together and had a relationship built on trust, both in Bochum and here in Wolfsburg. Murat is someone I hold in very high regard, both professionally and personally. I wish him all the very best for the future,” says VfL managing director for sport Dieter Hecking.

“Convinced that VfL will quickly return to winning ways”

Murat Ural: “I would like to thank everyone in charge at the club, Dieter Hecking in particular, as well as the team, for the excellent and intensive work we have done together. I am convinced that VfL Wolfsburg’s new sporting direction will see the club quickly return to winning ways. I wish the club every possible success.”
