After a successful outing last Sunday, when VfL Wolfsburg’s U17s secured a 3-1 victory away to 1. FC Union Berlin, the Green-and-Whites are straight back on the road for their next fixture. Head coach Christian Stegmaier’s side face Hansa Rostock at 11:00 on Saturday.
Still unbeaten
While Hansa lost their last match 5-1 away to Hamburger SV and have picked up four points from three games, the Young Wolves have collected seven points so far and sit second in the table, level on points with HSV.
Stegmaier’s side are yet to taste defeat, with their only dropped points coming in a draw against FC St. Pauli.
“No need to fear anyone”
“The win against Union was very valuable for us because it showed the strengths our boys have and that we don’t need to fear any opponent,” said head coach Stegmaier. “That’s why I’m hoping we’ll play with confidence and belief in the far north as well.”
In training this week, the focus was on deliberately moving the opposition around, consistently exploiting the spaces that open up and repeatedly looking for the most direct route to goal. In Rostock, the VfL youngsters want to “disrupt Hansa’s combinations as early as possible and transition quickly after winning the ball”.
A familiar face
There will be a special reunion with Fabio Noeske, who moved from the Young Wolves to Rostock in the summer. “We’re looking forward to seeing Fabio. He was part of our team until recently and has been playing a very, very good role for Hansa so far,” said Stegmaier.
