Germany Book Their World Cup Ticket

The first half of the final international break before the summer break has been completed for the She-Wolves.

A number of VfL Wolfsburg Women players were in action for their national teams over the weekend. Alongside World Cup qualifying fixtures, there were also matches at youth international level.

Early World Cup Qualification Secured

The Germany national team have qualified early for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. A 2-0 victory over Norway secured top spot in League A Group 4 for the DFB side on Matchday 5, meaning they can no longer be displaced from the summit. Vivien Endemann came on in the 66th minute, while Sophia Kleinherne entered the game in the 80th minute. Stina Johannes, Camilla Küver and Sarai Linder were unused substitutes. Janina Minge was unavailable due to suspension following a red card. Germany conclude their group campaign away to Slovenia on Tuesday evening, with kick-off at 18:00 CEST.

Norway Head for the Play-offs

For Norway, Guro Bergsvand and Thea Bjelde played the full 90 minutes. Justine Kielland was introduced in the 77th minute. Norway remain second in the group on nine points and can no longer catch Germany. As a result, they will have to take the play-off route to the World Cup. Norway host Austria on Tuesday evening at 18:00 CEST in their final group match.

Netherlands Slip to Third Place

The Netherlands suffered a setback in the race for top spot in the group. Oranje were beaten 3-2 by Ireland and dropped to third place in League A Group 2. Lineth Beerensteyn played the full match, while Janou Levels was substituted after 56 minutes. Ella Peddemors also played 56 minutes, while Caitlin Dijkstra did not feature. The group remains wide open heading into the final matchday. France lead the standings with 10 points, followed by Ireland on nine and the Netherlands on eight. The Dutch host bottom side Poland on Tuesday evening, with kick-off at 21:00 CEST.

Arasniewicz Features in Second Half

Poland suffered a 2-0 defeat to France. Weronika Arasniewicz was brought on at half-time. The Wolfsburg player will face several of her VfL teammates on Tuesday evening when Poland travel to the Netherlands for their final group match, kicking off at 21:00 CEST.

Switzerland Clinch Top Spot

Smilla Vallotto enjoyed a successful evening with the Switzerland national team. The Swiss recorded an emphatic 6-1 home win over Malta. Vallotto came on in the 68th minute. Switzerland remain top of League B Group 2 on 13 points. Thanks to their superior head-to-head record against second-placed Türkiye, they have already secured first place ahead of the final matchday. Switzerland conclude their group campaign away to Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening at 19:00 CEST.

Smolarczyk Goes the Distance

The She-Wolves were also in action at youth international level. Germany’s U19 national team suffered a 2-0 defeat to the USA in a friendly. Nelly Smolarczyk played the full match. The two teams will meet again on Tuesday in Frankfurt, with kick-off at 15:00 CEST.
