Further Reinforcement

VfL signs Alessio Besio.

Just one day after the start of pre-season preparations, VfL Wolfsburg have announced another new signing: Swiss attacking player Alessio Besio has joined the club. The 22-year-old, who most recently spent the season on loan at SC Verl, arrives from SC Freiburg. He has signed a contract with the Green-and-Whites until 30 June 2030.

“A promising winger”

“Alessio is a promising winger with tremendous potential. He has an excellent range of qualities, which he showcased impressively during his time at Verl, and he will give us even more options in attack,” said VfL sporting director Pirmin Schwegler. Besio is looking forward to his new challenge with the Wolves: “My first impressions have been excellent. Of course, Tobias Strobl was one of the key reasons why I decided to join VfL. Our time together at Verl was very successful, both for the club and for us personally. That’s why I’m delighted that we’ll be working together again.”

Impressive scoring record in the third tier

Alessio Besio learned the game at FC St. Gallen, where he also made his Swiss Super League debut in 2021. After making a total of 34 appearances in the country’s top flight, Besio, who was also born in St. Gallen, joined SC Freiburg in 2023. He scored six goals in 28 Regionalliga Südwest matches for the club’s reserve side. The attacker then really made his mark during his loan spell at 3. Liga side SC Verl last season, registering 18 goals and 12 assists in 36 competitive appearances for the East Westphalian club. Besio has also represented Switzerland at youth international level, earning seven caps across the U19, U20 and U21 age groups.
