Sharn Freier will not be part of the VfL Wolfsburg Women’s squad this year, with the attacker moving back to Australia for personal reasons. The 24-year-old is going on loan for the 2025/26 season to her former club Brisbane Roar, for whom she was a stand-out player on the wing between 2022 and 2025 before moving to Wolfsburg this summer.
“Very grateful for the opportunity”
“Personal reasons have unfortunately left me with no choice but to return to Australia,” Freier explained. “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the coaching staff and my team-mates for the support I received during my time at Wolfsburg. Even though it has come to an end earlier than anticipated, I’m very grateful for the opportunity that I received here. I’d like to wish the team all the best for the rest of the season.”
“Fully convinced of Sharn’s attributes”
“We were and remain fully convinced of Sharn’s sporting attributes, and as such are very disappointed that she is returning to Australia,” said Ralf Kellermann, director of football for VfL Women. “At the same time, it was important for us to find a solution that satisfied everybody based on the current circumstances. We’ll come together to re-examine the situation in early 2026, and until then, we hope that everything works out for Sharn both on and off the pitch.”
