“Focus on the result”

VfL Women face fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Friday evening.

VfL Wolfsburg Women return to action after the international break with a huge game in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga. Fourth-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the season’s surprise package so far and level on points with Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich, host the She-Wolves at the Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion on Friday 6 December at 18:30 CET. At Thursday’s pre-match press conference, VfL boss Tommy Stroot answered questions on…

…personnel: “Kristin Demann, Camilla Küver, Luca Papp, Jule Brand and Ariana Arias are out, but everyone else is available. That also means Caitlin Dijkstra will be in the squad for the first time.”

…playing on a Friday after an international break: “It’s important to make the most of the little time we have on the training pitch after those international games. At Leverkusen, we need to focus mainly on the result rather than the performance. Some of our patterns of play might not be set in stone because of the quick turnaround, but at the end of the day the result will be key in this top-of-the-table clash in the Women’s Bundesliga.”

…Leverkusen’s impressive form: “They’ve been improving consistently for years now. They’re doing very well – we’re facing a direct rival away from home. We have huge respect for Leverkusen, but we know we’re capable of getting the right result if we do our jobs properly.”

…Friday’s approach: “We want to leave the pitch as winners. We’re expecting to face a side who are incredibly strong in transition. That’s something we’ll need to stop. At the same time, we’ll need to be clinical with the opportunities that fall our way.”
