Following VfL Wolfsburg’s first home game of 2025, a 5-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on 14 January, it is very unlikely that anybody of a Green-and-White persuasion would have thought that would also be the Wolves’ only win at the Volkswagen Arena for almost 11 months.
VfL finally ended the 14-game winless streak on home turf on Saturday with a 3-1 success over 1. FC Union Berlin.
Further facts and figures
Clinical: The Wolves only took four shots at goal against Union, their lowest tally in the Bundesliga this season. However, three of those were not only on target they also found the back of Union goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow’s net.
Assist count rising: After Sael Kumbedi teed up Aaron Zehnter in Frankfurt last week, this time around Mohammed Amoura was the beneficiary. That means the Frenchman has now set up a team-leading four goals in the Bundesliga this season.
Goal contributions: For the first time since a 2-1 away win in Stuttgart in mid-February, Amoura provided both a goal and an assist in one game. As such, he is VfL’s most potent attacker this term with seven direct goal contributions (five scored, two assists).
Goal drought over: Patrick Wimmer’s effort to put VfL 1-0 up against Union ended his personal run of 18 Bundesliga outings without a goal. The last time he was on target was with a brace in Bremen on 1 March earlier this year.
