First Team

Final say: Leipzig

The facts following the 2-2 draw at RB.

On Matchday 22, the Wolves secured an important point with a 2-2 (0-0) draw away to RB Leipzig. In an intense and hard-fought encounter, the Green-and-Whites showed great character, twice taking the lead and holding firm against the hosts’ pressure deep into the closing stages. After a goalless first half, Mohammed Amoura put VfL ahead following good work from Adam Daghim. Leipzig capitalised on a misplaced clearance from Kamil Grabara to equalise, but Wolfsburg responded once more as Mattias Svanberg restored the lead. Shortly before full-time, Brajan Gruda made it 2-2 for the home side. In a heated finale, VfL defended passionately to secure a well-earned point on the road.

Match facts

Lead surrendered: Wolfsburg have now dropped points from a winning position eight times in the Bundesliga this season (four draws, four defeats) – the highest tally in the league. A total of 20 possible points have slipped away.

Strong presence with an unfortunate moment: In the first half, VfL goalkeeper Kamil Grabara produced fine saves against Diomande, Harder, Henrichs and Gruda to keep his side level. After the break, he was again alert to efforts from Diomande and Romelu, preserving the lead for long spells. He was unfortunate with the misplaced pass that led to the interim equaliser, while the late 2-2 left him with no chance.

Bundesliga debut for Adjetey: It was a special moment in Leipzig for Jonas Adjetey, as the Green-and-Whites’ winter signing made his Bundesliga debut. He came on for Adam Daghim in stoppage time. Although his brief appearance had no decisive impact on the match, it marked an important milestone in his still young career.

More miles, more commitment: Wolfsburg impressed not only with their football but also with their work rate. The team defended compactly, worked tirelessly without the ball and were prepared to go the extra mile throughout. That was reflected in the running stats: with 126.23 kilometres covered, VfL outdid the hosts (122.86 km). Christian Eriksen played a major part, clocking up 13.3 kilometres – the highest total of any player on the pitch.

First point from behind: RB Leipzig picked up their first point of the season from a losing position in the 2-2 against VfL.

Competitive milestone: Former Wolf Xaver Schlager made his 100th competitive appearance for RB Leipzig on Sunday evening – and captained the side for the first time.
