The VfL ladies suffered a defeat in their final away game of the current season, with FC Bayern Munich narrowly beating the Green-Whites 1-2 (0-2) on Sunday afternoon. The home side took a two-goal lead through Dominika Skorvankova and Fridolina Rolfö (18’, 35’), but soon after the re-start, Zsanett Jakabfi pulled a goal back for the Lady-Wolves (48’), to make for a tense remainder of the tie. The defeat put an end to two impressive runs from VfL: After 13 league wins in succession, the Green-Whites again tasted defeat. In addition, coach Lerch’s side conceded their first goal in the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga, having maintained ten clean-sheets. The season ends for Wolfsburg’s ladies next Sunday (June 3rd, 14:00 CEST), with a home game against 1. FC Köln. As to exactly how this season’s double-success is to be celebrated will be clarified over the next few days.
"The result is acceptable"
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: The result is acceptable. We didn’t play at all well in the first-half. We often merely accompanied our opponents and made things easy for them in many situations. Bayern created a lot of chances and we found no solutions in our approach play. We battled back into the game in the second-half and had better order in our play. We defended well as a unit, got into the challenges and refused to throw in the towel. Pulling the goal back quickly gave us a boost. We believed we could snatch an equaliser and had a really good opening just before the finish – but Bayern’s counter-attacks were always dangerous too.
