The VfL Wolfsburg women have also won their fourth Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga game of the season. The Wölfinnen earned a deserved 2-0 (1-0) victory away to VfB Stuttgart on Sunday afternoon. Ella Peddemors gave the Green-and-Whites an early lead, before Cora Zicai doubled the advantage after the break. The result means VfL still have a perfect record after four matchdays.
Team news
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch made four changes to his starting line-up from the game against Werder Bremen. Thea Bjelde, Camilla Küver, Sarai Linder and Kessya Bussy came in for Joelle Wedemeyer, Sophia Kleinherne, Lou Bogaert and Zicai.
Match summary
The Wölfinnen made a strong start and took the lead through Peddemors as early as the third minute. Janina Minge narrowly missed the target from 16 metres shortly afterwards (7'), before Lara Prasnikar fired past the left post after good work from Bussy (12'). A cross from Svenja Huth also caused problems (13'). VfL dictated the game and created further good chances through Prasnikar (32') and Peddemors (34'). Stuttgart only began to threaten shortly before the break: Nicole Billa was denied by Stina Johannes when clean through (40') and then struck the crossbar from distance (41'). Wolfsburg therefore went into the dressing room with a deserved lead.
The hosts enjoyed their best spell after the restart. Greta Stegemann got a shot away on the right following a free-kick but found the side-netting (59'). After a brief stoppage due to blue smoke bombs (61'), the game initially settled down before Zicai made it 2-0 in the 69th minute. The Wölfinnen regained control from that point on and professionally saw out their lead. There was no further danger until the closing stages: Verena Wieder drove forward from midfield into the penalty area but was denied by Johannes (88'). The VfL goalkeeper was also alert in stoppage time to prevent Stuttgart from potentially pulling a goal back (90'+2).
