VfL Wolfsburg will face not one but two European opponents at the VfL Family Festival at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday 5 August. The Wolves’ dress rehearsal for the new campaign gets under way at 15:00 CEST, when head coach Niko Kovac’s charges take on Italian top-flight side US Sassuolo Calcio. The Green-and-Whites then face Spanish La Liga outfit Celta Vigo in their second friendly of the afternoon at 17:00 CEST, with both matches lasting 90 minutes.
Thirteenth last season
The northwest Spanish club and the Emilia-Romagna-based Serie A side both finished the 2022/23 season in 13th place in their respective leagues. The friendly against Wolfsburg marks the end of both clubs’ preparations for the upcoming campaign: While the Wolves travel to Makkabi Berlin in their first competitive outing on Sunday 13 August (kick-off 15:30 CEST), Celta Vigo begin their La Liga season at home to Osasuna on the same day. Sassuolo get under way in Serie A on 20 August, when they host Atalanta.
The two friendlies will form part of the VfL Family Festival and Kids Day, which will take place across the Volkswagen Arena premises.
