Following last Saturday’s emphatic victory, when the Green-and-White U17s swept aside Eimsbütteler TV 9-0 at the AOK Stadion to move to the top of the table, their next assignment in this midweek round of fixtures is a trip to JFV Calenberger Land in the round of 16 of the Niedersachsenpokal. Kick-off is at 18:30 CEST on Wednesday.
“We want to bring energy into the game”
JFV are still waiting for their first win in the Niedersachsenliga. Their record so far is one draw and two defeats, leaving the team bottom of the table. They have nevertheless already had something to celebrate this season: a 1-0 victory away to JFV Hameln saw the side from Calenberger Land book their place in the round of 16 of the NFV-Pokal.
VfL head coach Christian Stegmaier wants his side to approach the cup tie with full focus: “We want to bring a lot of energy into the game while also trying to take something from it into the challenges ahead.”
Next challenge already awaits
The young Wolves will have little time to catch their breath after the cup tie. Just three days after the round-of-16 encounter, they travel to Hamburger SV on Saturday (kick-off 13:00 CEST) for a top-of-the-table clash in Preliminary Group A of the DFB-Nachwuchsliga. “The cup game is important for us in terms of preparing as well as possible for the match at the weekend,” explains Stegmaier. The current league leaders from Wolfsburg will then take on their closest challengers in the Hanseatic city.
