First Team

Comfortable friendly win

VfL earned a 12-0 victory over a Beck’s XI in the first game of their pre-season preparations.

As is now a long-standing tradition, VfL Wolfsburg played against a Beck’s XI made up of amateur local players selected by readers of the region’s AZ/WAZ newspapers in their first pre-season friendly of the summer.

The Wolves came away with a 12-0 win in Gifhorn, with Kevin Paredes, Trevor Benedict and Vaclav Cerny each scoring twice, and further goals from Bruno Katz, Dzenan Pejcinovic, Jan Bürger, Andreas Skov Olsen, Mattias Svanberg and David Leal Costa rounding out the scoring.

The Green-and-Whites will kick off their training camp on Sunday 20 July by taking part in the Volkswagen Sachsen Cup at the GGZ Arena in Zwickau.

VfL head coach Paul Simonis: “The Beck's team played well. They presented us with a challenge and they had a solid structure. The pitch here is a bit longer than we're used to, but everything is very well organised and there are a lot of fans here. The weather wasn't bad either. It was great to see the youth players in action today, they did well. We’ll try to invite them back whenever possible so that they can get closer to the first team. It was certainly a valuable experience for them. Trevor played the full 90 minutes today because Max Arnold had to withdraw due to illness yesterday.”
