Facts on the Wolves’ away match at Hertha BSC.

Die VfL-Wolfsburg-Spieler Micky van de Ven und Sebastiaan Bornauw schlagen auf dem Spielfeld ein.

Based on recent form and the 6-0 drubbing of Freiburg, Wolfsburg are the favourites going into this evening’s game away to Hertha, who slipped to 17th in the table at the weekend after a 3-1 defeat at Bochum. VfL have also had the upper hand in the recent meetings between the two teams.

More facts and figures

  • Back with a bang: The Green-and-Whites’ 6-0 success over Freiburg in their opening match of the year was their biggest win of the season, and also their biggest since the record-breaking 8-1 victory against Augsburg in May 2019.

  • European ambitions: VfL claimed their fifth straight Bundesliga win against Freiburg – their longest winning streak since a six-match run in autumn 2014. It means the Wolves currently top the form table, ahead of Bayern and Leipzig.

  • Relegation zone: In contrast, Hertha are in deep trouble. The Old Lady have lost four of their last five league games and have four points less on the board than at the same stage last season.

  • Solid partnership: After Bayern, the Wolves boast the strongest defence in the Bundesliga. The centre-back duo of Sebastiaan Bornauw and Micky van de Ven have conceded just three goals since Matchday 11, when the Belgian came into the side.

  • Absentees: Along with long-term absentees Lukas Nmecha and Josip Brekalo, VfL will be without Paulo Otavio (one-match suspension) and Felix Nmecha (muscle stiffness) in Berlin. For the hosts, Stevan Jovetic (muscular), Chidera Ejuke (ligament), Kelia Nsona (knee) and new signing Florian Niederlechner (muscular) are ruled out.
