Captain commits

She-Wolves skipper Dominique Janssen signs two-year contract extension.

Dominique Janssen has renewed her contract, which was set to expire at the end of this season, until 30 June 2024. The Netherlands international, one of VfL Women’s three captains since the beginning of this campaign, joined the club from Arsenal Women in 2019 and has won the German championship (2020) as well as two DFB Cup titles (2020, 2021) during her time with the Green-and-Whites. At international level, the 27-year-old became a European champion in 2017 and a World Cup runner-up in 2019.

“We’re growing as a team”

“Wolfsburg has become a second home for me in the last few years,” commented Janssen. “I feel really happy here. Even more importantly, I believe in the development that we’ve initiated at this club and with this team. Everyone here is working very hard to succeed and everyone’s trying to become a little bit better every day. We’re growing as a team, just as I can continue to grow as a player and person here and make the team better. My big career ambition is to win the Champions League and I truly believe we can make that dream come true.”

“Great sign”

“It’s a really great sign that Dominique sees her future at VfL Wolfsburg,” said VfL Women sporting director Ralf Kellermann. “With her good defensive skills, her ability to open up play as well as her finishing qualities, Dominique possesses all the attributes that make a modern and complete player at the highest level. On top of that, over the last few months in particular, she’s matured into a real leading figure who takes on responsibility and leads from the front in her role as our captain. Dominique has made it clear that she feels happy in Wolfsburg and has ambitious goals for the next two seasons. The fact we can offer her those prospects is a great sign for VfL Wolfsburg and the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga.”
