A month and a half before the transfer window comes to an end, the VfL Women management have already finalised their squad for the new season with another new signing, namely Hedvig Lindahl. The 36-year-old Sweden international goalkeeper is joining the She-Wolves from Chelsea Women in the English Women’s Premier League and has signed a contract which runs until 30 June 2020. She has an incredible haul of 165 caps to her name with the Swedish national team, appearing in all seven matches at the last Women’s World Cup, securing a third-placed finish for the second time after 2011.

“VfL Wolfsburg is a club that has enjoyed a great deal of success and I feel honoured to become a part of such an incredibly strong team,” said Lindahl. “I will do my utmost to ensure that VfL continue to have success and I also hope that I will continue my development as a footballer. From what I experienced at Chelsea, I know that it’s a case of: If you can’t beat Wolfsburg, join them.”
VfL Women took on Chelsea Women in the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League in April 2018, with the She-Wolves winning both the first and the second legs, 3-1 and 2-0 respectively.

“Hedvig is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in Europe – something she proved on a number of occasions at the recent Women’s World Cup,” said sporting director Ralf Kellermann. “We don’t know how long that Almuth (Schult) will be out for, so we decided to sign another experienced keeper alongside Friederike (Abt) to ensure that we get the new season off to the best possible start and achieve the goals that we have set ourselves.”
