After two successful outings away to SGV Heilbronn-Freiberg in the DFB-Pokal (6-0) and SV Meppen in the DFB-Nachwuchsliga (2-1), VfL Wolfsburg’s U19s are set for their first home game of the season. The Young Wolves welcome SC Paderborn on Matchday 2, with the hosts having a score to settle with their opponents from last season. Kick-off at the academy is at 13:00 on Saturday 15 August.
Paderborn looking to avoid poor start
While the Wolves currently sit third in the table after picking up their first three points, SC Paderborn did not get the successful start they had hoped for. The Blue and Blacks suffered a 3-0 defeat to Preußen Münster in their opening game. Nevertheless, U19 head coach Niklas Bräuer is well aware of SCP’s qualities: “In Paderborn, we’re expecting opponents who will press us high up the pitch and look to disrupt us early, and who have a very solid back four. They also have quality on the ball, playing with two inverted wingers as they look to get into the final third. We want to defend against that well.”
“High intensity and good energy”
“We still have a score to settle from last season,” said Bräuer ahead of the encounter. The Wolves suffered a 5-1 defeat to SCP in the knockout stage of the DFB-Nachwuchsliga. That result ended the Green-and-Whites’ hopes of winning the German championship. “We want to win the game at home, so we’re looking forward to it.”
According to the head coach, who is very pleased with his side’s preparations for the match, that is also reflected in training: “There’s a high level of intensity and really good energy within the team. That’s why I’m very confident that the lads who are on the pitch and in the squad this weekend will make sure the three points stay in Wolfsburg.”
