In spite of the heavily packed schedule, the women’s team from VfL Wolfsburg are striding from success to success without any telling signs of fatigue. Having booked their place in the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League last Sunday, the Green-Whites were back in the hunt for points in the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga on Wednesday evening. In the rescheduled game from matchday 17, the Lady-Wolves notched up a convincing 5-0 (3-0) win over SV Werder Bremen. Player of the match was undoubtedly Zsanett Jakabfi, who weighed in with four goals (13’/ 43’/ 66’ /87’). The other goal on the night for VfL coach Stephan Lerch’s side was scored by Ella Masar (18'). In the table, VfL now have a five-point advantage over second placed FC Bayern Munich, with a game in hand and just five matches remaining in the season. This coming Sunday, May 6th, the Green-Whites will be in search of league points once again, away to 1. FFC Frankfurt at the 'Stadion am Brentanobad' (kick-off 11:00 CET).
"Focused, concentrated and convincing"
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: My summary of the game is a very positive one. In such a busy week, and following the Champions League game against Chelsea, we wanted to maintain the tempo. We knew Bremen weren’t used to such a busy schedule, so we wanted to shift the ball around and get our opponents on the run. We could have played out the odd attack more efficiently, but the performance from my team was focused, concentrated and convincing. We scored our goals at just the right times and the cushion we had at the break did us good. We let nothing through at the back tonight either, so I am generally quite happy with the manner in which we played this game.
