VfL Wolfsburg Women won their third January friendly on Friday afternoon – and in spectacular fashion too. In a goal-laden display on Pitch A at the Volkswagen Arena, the She-Wolves cruised to a 10-0 victory over Czech top-flight outfit Sparta Prague. VfL skipper Alexandra Popp scored a first-half hat-trick before netting her fourth of the game ten minutes after the restart. Chantal Hagel (55’, 57’), Fenna Kalma (71’, 85’) and Sveindis Jonsdottir (75’, 77’) also made the scoresheet.

Tommy Stroot's side will continue to train at Elsterweg in the coming days before facing Hannover 96 in their fourth and final friendly of the winter break on Wednesday 24 January, kicking off at 19:30 CET. They return to Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga action on Monday 29 January, when they play SGS Essen in a 19:30 CET kick-off.

Reaction

Tommy Stroot: "In general, I was happy that we had Sparta as our opponents because we're at a stage in our training where we're working on how to create goalscoring chances. That's why today was a really good training game for us. I thought we were very, very good defensively in particular. We adapted well to Sparta's style of play – we didn't really know what to expect beforehand. We also scored a lot of goals from direct transitions, which is good too. Our attacking play in tight spaces will also be important against Hannover 96."
