Women draw Dutch opposition

VfL Women will face FC Twente in the UWCL last 16.

VfL Wolfsburg have been drawn against Dutch champions FC Twente in the UEFA Women’s Champions League round of 16. The draw was made at UEFA headquarters in Nyon on Monday. The She-Wolves will be at home for the first leg on 16/17 October before travelling to the Netherlands for the return game on 30/31 October. The exact dates and kick-off times will be confirmed over the coming days.

VfL progressed to the last 16 with a commanding 15-0 aggregate victory over Kosovan outfit KFF Mitrovica, while Twente qualified for the next round after a 4-2 away win and a 2-1 home defeat in their tie against SKN St. Pölten.

“Go into the games as favourites”

“It’s an attractive draw for us,” said head coach Stephan Lerch. “Obviously we welcome the trip to a neighbouring country given the other possible opponents we could’ve had. Clearly we’ll go into both games as favourites. Twente are a young side who follow a clear philosophy and they can make it difficult for us. That said, we possess the greater experience in this competition and I’m very optimistic that we’ll prevail.”
