A round-up of how VfL’s international players have fared in recent days.
No fewer than five Wolves stars were involved in crucial UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers this week. Josip Brekalo (53rd-minute substitute for Croatia), Wout Weghorst (unused substitute for the Netherlands) and Pavao Pervan (unused substitute for Austria) all clinched their place at next summer’s tournament, while Renato Steffen (played 90 minutes) and Kevin Mbabu (unused substitute) are on the brink of booking their ticket for the finals following Switzerland’s victory over Georgia on Friday evening. The Nati, who are currently second in Group D with 14 points, will qualify if they avoid defeat in Gibraltar in their final qualifier on Monday (kick-off 20:45 CET).
Elsewhere, Marcel Tisserand was involved in DR Congo’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gabon on Thursday. The VfL defender captained the Leopards and played a leading role in keeping a clean sheet, but his side failed to find a way past their opponents at the other end.
