Wolfsburg to face Lille, Sevilla and Salzburg in Champions League group stage.
The Green-and-Whites have long known that they’ll be competing among the 32 best teams in Europe this season, but that Champions League feeling properly returned on Thursday evening in Istanbul as the draw for the 2021/22 group stage was made. Mark van Bommel’s side, who were allocated Pot 4, have been given some intriguing clashes. For their third participation in Europe’s premier club competition, the Wolves were placed in Group G with French champions OSC Lille, FC Sevilla, who finished fourth in Spain last season, and FC Salzburg, the former club of VfL duo Xaver Schlager and Marin Pongracic.
These teams will also be the opponents for VfL’s U19 side under Christian Wimmer in the UEFA Youth League.
