Wolves get into festive spirit

Players, coaches, backroom staff, management and other club employees enjoyed the VfL Christmas party at the Volkswagen Arena on Sunday.

As is traditional at VfL Wolfsburg in early December, all club staff from interns to the first team came together on Sunday evening to mark the end of the calendar year. Compared to the previous year’s event, it wasn’t just the dress code that was more relaxed but also the mood, thanks to the significantly improved situation on the pitch. Around 450 members of the VfL family – including academy staff, supervisory board members, managing directors as well as the whole women’s and men’s squads – enjoyed an entertaining evening in the corporate area of the Volkswagen Arena, one day after the equally enthralling 2-2 draw at home to TSG Hoffenheim.

Praise and thanks from chief of supervisory board

“We’re again seeing a VfL team that are really enjoyable to watch,” said Frank Witter, chairman of the VfL supervisory board, in his speech. “Peak fitness and team unity, on and off the pitch, are the basis for stabilising our footballing performance. There hasn’t been a single match this season where our motto of ‘work, football, passion’ hasn’t been detectable,” he added, on what was a night of firsts. For Witter, who also highlighted the successful work of the VfL football academy as well as the commitment of staff on projects such as the ‘Moving Together’ day, it was his first Christmas party address in his new role. It was also a debut for the newly formed VfL management team, and the first time that a suitable date was found that allowed the VfL Wolfsburg women, who came straight from their magnificent win at 1. FFC Frankfurt, to attend. Witter took the opportunity to praise their role within the club as “an absolute success story of recent times”.
