Wolves eye club record

Key facts and figures ahead of VfL’s clash with Leipzig.

The Wolves are the only Bundesliga club with a maximum six points from their opening two league matches, putting them top of the league for the first time in ten years. Victory at home to RB Leipzig on Sunday 29 August (kick-off 17:30 CEST) would set a new club record – never before have Wolfsburg won their first three Bundesliga matches.

More facts and figures

  • The Wolves are without a win in eight competitive meetings with Leipzig, although they have managed to pick up four draws in that time.

  • Leipzig have held the upper hand in the Bundesliga in recent years, winning five, drawing three and losing just two of the 10 league encounters between the two sides.

  • The teams last faced each other in Leipzig on the penultimate matchday of last season. The Wolves lead 2-0 at half-time courtesy of Maximilian Philipp’s brace, only for Leipzig to salvage a 2-2 draw. The result was enough to clinch VfL’s place in this season’s Champions League.

  • VfL have been denied by the woodwork on three occasions so far this season – more than any other team in the league. Leipzig have yet to hit the frame of the goal this term.

  • The Green-and-Whites have also registered 30 crosses – the most in the division and a tally that puts them just ahead of Leipzig, who have racked up 28 deliveries.
