The main aim for the season has not only been achieved, but far exceeded – and ahead of schedule too. What follows now is pure anticipation: of more marvellous performances in the league, hopes of the return of fans to stadiums, and the return of the Wolves to the Champions League. And the Green and White family will get an early taste of how the 2021/2022 season may feel at the weekend. As in the previous year, Maximilian Arnold, Wout Weghorst and co. will take to the pitch at the Volkswagen Arena for the last home game of the season when they face Mainz 05 on Saturday 22 May (kick-off at 15:30 CET) wearing the new kit for next season. Just over a week later, in the final of the women's DFB-Pokal in Cologne against Eintracht Frankfurt, the Wolves will also wear the newly designed kit and will do so again in their last league game on Sunday 6 June against Werder Bremen.

Once a workers' team, always a workers' team

The kit will not only be seen on the pitch, because together with Volkswagen and the Autostadt, VfL will once again provide a special framework campaign for the unveiling of the Nike kit. "#Nachtschicht" (night shift), the motto of the campaign, stands for the story of the underdog, who has battled with a lot of heart and hard work to reach the top – just as the Wolves have done in the table. With the hash tag "Nachtschicht" (night shift), VfL also underlines its close connection with Volkswagen and its home in Wolfsburg. The new kit is also designed to reflect that. Harking back to the city and club's DNA, its modern design is based on the prototype car known as an "Erlkönig", and thus stands for engineering and innovation. The new away shirt also has nostalgic touches, as the dark green tones are reminiscent of the club's colours from the 70s and 80s. The sky-blue kit remains part of the Wolves' apparel and will continue to be used in the new season.

The new VfL Wolfsburg kit that players will wear on the pitch as well as the replica jerseys for the fans are constructed with 100% recycled polyester fabric, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. This creates a kit that delivers peak performance with a lower impact on the environment. Plastic bottles are collected, cleaned and melted down to produce a high-quality yarn for manufacturing and is part of Nike’s wider Move to Zero initiative with football apparel leading the way in sustainability. No other sport captures global attention like the beautiful game and this is why since 2010, Nike has been using recycled polyester to produce football kits. Each year, Nike diverts one trillion plastic bottles from landfills and waterways by creating and designing with recycled polyester.
