VfL’s regular ‘Wolf tracks’ feature brings you all the latest news, information and updates about our Wolf pack. Covering the men’s, women’s and youth teams, we round up all the exciting goings-on at the club. Today we focus on the men’s squad, the She-Wolves’ upcoming DFB Cup opponent and a donation for the ‘Brotkörbchen’ (Bread Basket) charity.
Wout’s back! Saturday 8 February will see the Wolves host Fortuna Düsseldorf at the Volkswagen Arena as they bid to pick up their first home points of 2020 (kick-off 15:30 CET). Weghorst is available for the Green-and-Whites once again, having been sidelined last week with bruised thigh. His return is a timely one as Fortuna seem to be his favourite opponents, and he comes into the squad to replace the injured Marcel Tisserand, who has been ruled out with a thigh complaint.
The Wolves’ provisional 20-man squad: Casteels, Pervan, Arnold, Brekalo, Brooks, Gerhardt, Ginczek, Guilavogui, Klaus, Knoche, Mbabu, Mehmedi, Otavio, Pongracic, Roussillon, Schlager, Steffen, Victor, Weghorst, William.
Long wait is over: Almost three months after the 3-1 win over Bayern Munich in the DFB Cup last 16, the She-Wolves will find out their opponents for the next round when the quarter-final draw is made on Sunday 9 February at 18:00 CET (live on ARD’s Sportschau show).
In addition to VfL, a further five FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga teams – TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, SGS Essen, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and SC Sand – are in the hat for the draw alongside second division sides FSV Gütersloh and Arminia Bielefeld. Former Bundesliga player Cacau will make the draw, with the fixtures to be held on 21 and 22 March.
1,025 euros for charity: VfL Managing Director Dr. Tim Schumacher, She-Wolf Pia-Sophie Wolter and VfL brand ambassador Pierre Littbarski took charge of the grills at the Wolfsburg Christmas market in December, all in aid of a good cause. The money raised from the sales, totalling 1,025 euros, was handed over to the Wolfsburg community foundation ‘Brotkörbchen’ (Bread Basket) on Thursday.
