VfL kick off Matchday 22 with a trip to Arminia Bielefeld on Friday 19 February (20:30 CET). While the Wolves are hoping for three more points in their push for the European places, Bielefeld are looking to build on their eye-catching 3-3 draw at FC Bayern Munich on Monday.
Ahead of the game, Wolves head coach Oliver Glasner spoke about…
…respecting Bielefeld more following their 3-3 draw in Munich: “Our approach is always the same. We’re travelling to Bielefeld with the aim of picking up three points. We know Bielefeld will push us to our limits. We respected them a great deal, even before that. Bielefeld show time and time again they’re a good side and dangerous in front of goal. It didn’t take this 3-3 draw for them to earn appropriate levels of respect.”
…team news: “All the players are fit and available for selection. We’ve got a full squad to choose from. From a personnel perspective, too, it’s a very positive period for us at the moment.”
…possible changes to the starting XI: “I’m obviously not making any decisions today, but I can say I’m unlikely to make eight changes.”
…the team’s progress: “We’ve improved in all areas. Against Gladbach, who normally have more of the ball, we had 60 per cent possession in the second half and were very aggressive in our counter-pressing. Against Bielefeld it’ll be important to produce the same intensity levels. We also need to find good solutions in the final third.”
…players like Josuha Guilavogui, who have not featured much of late: “There are several players who’ve previously produced superb performances for us but are on the bench at the moment. I’ve spoken very openly with Josuha Guilavogui – it’s important we treat each other with honesty. He is – and will remain – our captain and is very important to us. We’ve also got four players currently on four yellow cards, so there will be opportunities. Josh is doing brilliantly and I’m happy to have a captain like him. I’m very happy with the attitude of the entire squad.”
