“We want to pick up points again”

Wolves head coach Oliver Glasner spoke to the press ahead of the trip to TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday.

VfL Wolfsburg return to Bundesliga action with a visit to TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday 15 February (kick-off 15:30 CET). At Thursday’s press conference ahead of the game, head coach Oliver Glasner spoke to the assembled media about…

…the lessons from the 1-1 draw with Fortuna Düsseldorf: “We’ve analysed the game thoroughly because the first half was anything but good. Then again, we performed very well in the second half after the sending off. One thing’s for sure, the players weren’t happy at all with the first half and very critical of themselves. We mustn’t let that passivity creep back in again. We were much braver and more ambitious went we went a man down, and we want to show those qualities again in Hoffenheim. We’ve had a good week’s training and want to pick up points again in Hoffenheim.”

…the squad and possible changes in central defence: “William is out, as you know. Marin Pongracic is suspended so we only have 18 outfield players available for selection, including three centre-backs in Robin Knoche, Marcel Tisserand and John Brooks. Josuha Guilavogui has also done well in that position. I will pick two of those players to play in central defence.”

…the opposition: “TSG play very cultured football but weren’t able to win in either the DFB Cup or the league recently, despite two good performances. Hoffenheim aren’t guaranteed a Europe spot every season either. They’re currently in a similar position in the table to recent years – within touching distance of the European places. They’re having a very good, solid season up to now.”

…filling the gaps: “Team spirit remains completely intact, otherwise they wouldn’t have fought back from going 1-0 down and being reduced to 10 men last weekend. We were all unhappy, but now it’s about getting back to our full potential against a good side. We want to do that as a team and I have no concerns about us not being able to do that.”
