Oliver Glasner gibt lautstark Anweisungen an der Seitenlinie.

It has been a long time since the Wolves went into a game on the back of three successive victories and clean sheets, but their impressive Bundesliga form will count for little on Wednesday 3 February when they attempt to reach the DFB Cup quarter-finals for the first time in two seasons. VfL’s opponents are FC Schalke 04, whom they beat 2-0 in the league in the first half of the campaign. Ahead of the game against the Royal Blues, head coach Oliver Glasner spoke about…

…receiving public praise: “We’re pleased about it because we obviously much prefer being praised to being criticised for our performances. I don’t get the impression that it’ll breed any kind of complacency, or that the players think they can automatically keep this up. They made a very good impression in training again today. Everyone’s clear objective is to reach the quarter-finals by beating Schalke.”

…personnel: “The situation is very positive. Jeffrey Bruma and Jerome Roussillon have to cope with an additional workload at the moment – with three games in six days we’re not really able to train properly right now – but in general all the players are fit and healthy, which I’m very happy about.”

…possible rotation: “Every day we monitor how the lads are doing on the pitch. All the players are making a very good impression at the moment, but there might still be changes in one or two positions. My coaching staff and I will have another chat about this [before the game].”

…the opposition: “In my opinion, Schalke have already improved under Christian Gross. There’s a clear strategy in terms of attacking the opposition and how to behave in possession. Players like Raman, Harit, Uth and Serdar are footballers with a great deal of quality. We’re wary of Schalke, but our focus is always on ourselves. We need to deliver a really good performance, because that’ll give us the best chance of victory.”
