“We need to be well-organised”

Oliver Glasner is confident ahead of his side’s prime-time fixture away to Gladbach.

The Wolves are unbeaten in their opening three Bundesliga games of the new season, but are also yet to taste victory – something they are looking to remedy when they face Borussia Mönchengladbach away on Saturday evening (kick-off 20:30 CEST). At his pre-match press conference, VfL head coach Oliver Glasner gave his thoughts on…

… personnel: “Renato Steffen has been in training all week after recovering from his infection. He initially looked a little off the pace, but he’s made a good impression again recently. Ridle Baku hasn’t trained with the team very much yet, and Maximilian Philipp is still adapting too. But overall it’s nice to have some options again.”

… results so far: “In all three games we’ve had good chances to score, and we even had more opportunities against Leverkusen and Augsburg than we did in Freiburg. We failed to convert a number of really good chances there. Now we want to try to carve out more openings for ourselves, but that’s not going to be easy in Gladbach.”

… the opposition: “Gladbach are very quick in transition. In Breel Embolo, Marcus Thuram and Alassane Plea, they’ve got attackers with unbelievable quality in their team. It’ll be important for us to be well-organised, particularly when we’re not in possession.”

… the kick-off time: “The release period for players on international duty was extended by a day, so I think it’s very positive that the fixture list has taken that into account. I think kicking off in prime time on Saturday evening is terrific. I hope a lot of people will watch it on TV and see a great Bundesliga game.”
