“We need an extraordinary performance”

The Wolves are full of confidence ahead of their match away to Bayern Munich.

VfL Wolfsburg Cheftrainer Oliver Glasner.

VfL have struggled to pick up points from their past trips to Munich, but Oliver Glasner’s side have plenty of confidence ahead of Wednesday’s fixture away to Bayern (kick-off 20:30 CET) after the Green-and-Whites extended their unbeaten start to the season to 11 consecutive Bundesliga games with the 2-1 home triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt. At his pre-match press conference, Glasner spoke about…

…team news: “Renato Steffen is still out, as is Admir Mehmedi. John Brooks is a major doubt too. I don’t think he’ll be able to play because he had to cut today’s training session short due to some bruising he sustained in the Frankfurt game.”

…the options at centre-back: “We’ve got a few alternatives in defence, including Marin Pongracic, Tim Siersleben and Josuha Guilavogui, who will also travel with the squad to Munich.”

… Bayern’s supposed dip in form: “I’m not holding out much hope that we’ll be facing a weakened Bayern team. They’ve had a normal period and suddenly there’s talk of them being tired and having played too many games. They’ve got a big squad with lots of quality. We need an extraordinarily good performance if we're to get anything in Munich.”

… VfL’s current league position: “It’s irrelevant because none of my players will underestimate Bayern or think they can play half-heartedly. We know that we’ll have to be at our very best physically, tactically and in terms of taking our chances. I’m confident we’ll get chances to score. It’ll be important over the 90 minutes that we have that belief that we’ll get scoring opportunities.”
