“We have a stable side”

Oliver Glasner addressed the media ahead of the Wolves’ clash with FC Augsburg at the Volkswagen Arena on Sunday.

The games are coming thick and fast for VfL Wolfsburg. Just three days after drawing 2-2 at KAA Gent in the UEFA Europa League, the Wolves return to Bundesliga action with a home match against FC Augsburg on Sunday 27 October (kick-off 15:30 CET). At the press conference ahead of the game at the Volkswagen Arena, Glasner shared his thoughts on…

…Joao Victor’s first goal for the club against Gent: “He’s been a real attacking threat in several games already. I’m pleased for him that he managed to score, because he hasn’t been far away [from opening his account] in recent games. He ran 12.7 kilometres and did 60 sprints during yesterday’s game. I don’t know if that’s ever happened in the Bundesliga before. Usually, nobody ever does more than 30 or 40 sprints in a game.”

…squad rotation and the possibility of resting players: “I keep a close eye on my team and we obviously take other variables into account, such as blood levels. Our busy schedule has taken its toll in one or two areas. I rested Jerome Roussillon and started Renato Steffen against Gent, while William only played 45 minutes on the other flank. It’s possible that one or two players will be given a rest against Augsburg. At the end of the day, I’ll field a team that I believe will give us the best chance of winning. I’ll always select a fit player over a tired one. Our unbeaten record isn’t something we’ve discussed among ourselves, but it shows we have a stable side and that we’re able to compensate for injuries.”

…personnel: “Koen Casteels isn’t ready to play on Sunday. Max Arnold hurt his knee yesterday and didn’t take part in our recovery session today. Kevin Mbabu twisted his ankle in the second half [against Gent], but Felix Klaus is available again after recovering from a stomach virus.”
