VfL Wolfsburg is delighted to announce a new official payment partner in Volksbank BraWo, who will also become a premium partner. The two parties agreed the corresponding contract on 1 July, which is initially valid until 30 June 2023 with an option for a two-year extension.
The central project of the partnership is the implementation of the next stage of digital payment at the Volkswagen Arena. Volksbank will equip the stadium with state-of-the-art technology that will significantly speed up the payment process and thus further increase the service quality at VfL home matches. Starting from the new season, the options for contactless payment by card, smartphone or smartwatch in and around the stadium will also be expanded. In addition, the bank will significantly increase its sponsorship budget for the next three years.
Faster payment processes, higher quality of service
Thanks to the new technology and the clearer displays of the payment terminals that will be used in the stadium in the future - which are already successfully in use at Bundesliga clubs 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Bayer 04 Leverkusen - the 20,000 separate transactions that VfL fans and away supporters make on an average matchday via card or mobile phone will be much faster and more transparent.
As such, supporters now have even greater and more flexible payment options at their disposal. Paying by bank card (Girocard or EC card), credit card (e.g. VISA and Mastercard), smartphone, smartwatch or Volksbank app, and using the VfL season ticket or VfL membership card, makes for a fast and hygienic transaction. A further innovation is that no PIN or signature is required for contactless payments up to €30, rising to €50 in the future.
Trustful relationship in difficult times
“Sticking together through uncomfortable, difficult times – that’s what defines a partnership,” said Jürgen Brinkmann, chief executive of Volksbank BraWo. “And that’s exactly why we decided to back VfL even more strongly as a finance partner going forward. In total, the sales kiosks at the Volkswagen Arena, on the fan mile and in the VfL fan shops will be kitted out with over 200 new terminals, which can process payments within seconds. This will allow fans to stock up on drinks, snacks and merchandise even more quickly on matchdays.”
Michael Meeske, managing director of VfL Wolfsburg Fußball GmbH, also welcomed the extended collaboration with the locally rooted partner and the added value it will bring to fans in the future: “We’re very pleased that we’re able to build on our trusting partnership with Volksbank BraWo. The bank’s commitment is not to be taken for granted during these difficult times, and we’re very grateful that they’ve increased their sponsorship budget for the next three years and will be supporting us as a premium partner. The technological upgrade will significantly enhance the stadium experience for our fans.”
