From 16 to 26 August, VfL is joining forces with the Volkswagen Group China (VGC) and the Chinese Football Association (CFA) to host an event in Wolfsburg. Ever since 2013, the Green-Whites have held regular training sessions for youth coaches from the Chinese FA, and a number of talented kids from all across China are also visiting the Wolves for a training camp with plenty of enjoyable activities for them alongside.
Friendly and visit from sporting director
A match between the VfL U-12s and a Chinese team made up of children born in 2007 was held on Tuesday on training pitch A at the Volkswagen Arena. Wolves ambassador Pierre Littbarski was in charge of the guests and enjoyed a 3-1 win in his role as coach for the day. Before kick-off, jerseys were exchanged by representatives of VfL, Volkswagen and the CFA, then after the final whistle, the 15 coaches who had made the trip had the chance to pick the brains of Marcel Schäfer. The VfL sporting director made himself available for questions and also gave an insight into the basic training that children are given, the structure of youth development in Germany and the kind of playing philosophy that is fostered here. To finish off, the budding footballers had the chance to get an autograph from the former international in the press conference room, and photos were taken of the whole group. The Chinese Delegation also got to see the Wolves open their season with a 2-1 win over 1. FC Köln last weekend, and they still have visits planned to the Autostadt museum, the VfL-Fußball.Akademie, VfL-FußballWelt and the Phaeno Science Center. They will of course get to hear plenty of presentations on a variety of subjects, including scouting, performance evaluation, video analysis plus the development of football and talent in China.
